Our Priorities for 2026-27 Caring for the Lake Together

A healthy, enjoyable Nepco Lake depends on reliable services, informed decisions, and neighbors working together. For the coming year, the NLD is focusing on four priorities: improving harvesting reliability, advancing water-quality work, broadening funding sources, and

Six work teams will help move these priorities forward. Each has a specific purpose, with opportunities for neighbors to contribute their interests, skills, and available time.

Harvesting: Improve reliability and service

This team will plan and coordinate aquatic plant harvesting for the 2027 season, using lessons from this year’s challenges to improve reliability and service.

Harvester operators, drivers who haul harvested plants, and people with mechanical troubleshooting or repair skills can contribute to this work.

Water Quality: Advance our understanding and care of the lake

This team will continue water testing, shoreline improvement efforts, invasive-species prevention through Clean Boats, Clean Waters, and the NLD’s educational series.

The team is also working toward nitrate reductions that could help reduce aquatic vegetation over time. These efforts support informed decisions about the lake’s long-term health.

You don’t need a scientific background to express interest. A willingness to learn and help care for the lake is a good place to start.

Fundraising: Broaden support for the NLD’s work

This team will explore additional funding sources to support lake programs and equipment needs. Its stretch goal is to secure $150,000 in outside funding by January 2028.

Neighbors interested in researching funding opportunities, grant writing, or helping build connections are welcome to get involved.

Stakeholder Engagement: Keep neighbors informed and connected

This team will help neighbors understand what’s happening and why it matters, make information easier to find, invite participation, and build relationships.

The work includes newsletters, website information, volunteer outreach, and welcoming new neighbors. Whether you enjoy writing, organizing information, or connecting with people, there are several ways to help.

Finance: Make financial information clear and plan ahead

This team will manage the NLD’s day-to-day finances, provide plain-English reports on its budget and financial position, and further develop a long-term financial strategy.

Clear financial information helps neighbors understand how NLD funds are used and how future needs are being planned for. People with an interest or experience in financial management are encouraged to reach out.

East Harvester Replacement: Prepare for the next season

This temporary team will pursue the purchase of a newer used east-side harvester, following the decision made by property owners at the annual meeting.

The goal is to restore east-side harvesting in 2027. The NLD will share updates as this work progresses.
