Approximately 50 property owners gathered at the park shelter for the Nepco Lake District’s annual meeting on August 15 to hear updates, discuss lake priorities, and approve the 2027 budget. Thank you to everyone who attended, asked questions, and shared ideas.
The main decisions focused on improving harvesting reliability across the lake, including replacing the east-side harvester and funding that purchase.
Replacing the east-side harvester
The east-side harvester experienced a major engine failure during the 2026 season. To continue service, the NLD hired a contractor to harvest that side of the lake during the final several weeks of the season.
At the meeting, property owners discussed four options:
- Repair the existing harvester at a cost of up to $40,000.
- Purchase a newer used harvester at a cost of up to $70,000.
- Hire a contractor to provide east-side harvesting.
- Discontinue east-side harvesting.
Property owners voted to pursue purchasing a newer used harvester. The goal is to restore east-side harvesting in 2027 while allowing time to explore state grant funding before considering a new machine.
The East Harvester Replacement work team will move this effort forward, and the NLD will share updates as the work progresses.
What the approved budget means for property owners
Property owners also approved a 2027 budget that includes funding for the harvester replacement. The assessment will increase by $164 per parcel in 2027, bringing the annual assessment to:
- $614 per improved parcel
- $514 per unimproved parcel
This increase supports the equipment purchase intended to restore reliable harvesting on the east side of the lake.
Exploring additional funding sources
Participants also discussed how the NLD is funded. Several attendees encouraged the board to seek funding beyond parcel assessments, including contributions from municipalities that benefit from the lake.
The board has identified broadening funding sources as a priority for the coming year. The Fundraising work team will explore opportunities to support the NLD’s work.
Lake health and opportunities to help
Attendees heard updates on aquatic plant harvesting, water-quality programs, and the 2026 educational program. Neighbors also had an opportunity to express interest in volunteering.
